My younger brother actually bought the malware defense after he panicked. He has since canceled the credit card used to buy it. Unfortunately, I think he may have given out other valuable info as well, anyone know what else does it ask for? SSN? Hopefully he learned his lesson...

Addium to previous post. It didn't work. there is a file hidden in (%rootdir%)\windows\system32\drivers that has to be removed. it also has to be removed from registry. It is in three places I believe in the registry. If not removed it will selfpropagate itself. File name is H8SRTslxmowejw.sys ( at lest on my machine). The h8srt part is always there but maybe different ending to it.
I am going to try to run it after I have deleted all these files and see if that worked.

I got a double dose of Malware Defense. Yestrday as i was viewing a fairly safe website it poped up on my computer. My virus detetion caught it and safely removed it.
But before it did I got the pop-ups about buying it and one that it was scanning my machine to detect malware. I had learned a lonf=g time ago not to try to click cansel or try to close the screen on these type of invaders with my mouse. I used the alt-F4 mothod of closeing them and it worked fine.
The second run in with this virus was on my daughter-in-laws machine last night. They were gone and I went down to their house to tend to their anamals. Their cat(I think) had gotten up on her computer desk and hit the mouse triggering the screen to come back on. The screen was covered with pop=ups conserning Malware Defense. Their virus protection ( same as Mine) hadn't detected it nor done anything about it. I tried to run a virus scan but the virus protection program would not run. I think the malware program had killed it. I tried to go to the programs website to download the virus scanner program and it failed each time I tried. I tried to remove Malware Defense manualy( in safe mode) and ran across six(6) occurances of it in the registry. In Windows explorer I found all the files you mentioned above and deleted them. Then went to the web site of the virus program and safely downloaded the scanner, still in safe mode. Seems to have worked. Tonya was correct, if not in safe mode, cannot delete the files. You forgot to mention that in your explanation of manual deletion of this virus.
